Frequently asked questions

Plain answers to the questions families ask us most. Tap a question to read the answer.

What is a board and care / RCFE?

RCFE stands for Residential Care Facility for the Elderly. It is California's license for assisted living. A board and care is a small RCFE in a real home, so residents get the help they need with a calm, family feel and more one-on-one attention than a large community.

How much does it cost?

Private rooms are $7,000–$10,000 per month, depending on the room and care needs. A couples room is $12,000–$14,000 per month. Hospice care is $350 per day.

What's included?

The monthly rate includes the room, meals, care and housekeeping — pretty much everything. Incontinence supplies and special diet items are not included.

Is there a move-in fee?

Yes. There is a one-time move-in administration fee of $2,000.

Do you have private rooms and bathrooms?

Yes. Every bedroom is private, with its own exterior door to the patio, individual heating and air conditioning, a closet and a dresser. Most bedrooms have a private bathroom.

Can residents in wheelchairs or who are bedbound live here?

Yes. Ridgeview Gardens is approved by the state for non-ambulatory residents, including residents who are bedbound.

Do you accept hospice?

Yes. We hold a state hospice waiver, so residents on hospice can stay in their home with us. We work alongside the hospice agency your family chooses.

Can you help residents with mild memory loss?

Our assisted living can support residents with mild memory loss whose behaviors are mild to moderate. We're not able to accept residents who try to leave (exit seeking) or who have severe behaviors.

Do you accept Medi-Cal or insurance?

Ridgeview Gardens is private pay. We don't accept Medi-Cal and don't bill insurance directly. Families with long-term care insurance pay us and then submit for reimbursement. Many families also use savings, VA benefits or the sale of a home.

When can we tour?

Tours are Monday–Friday, 9 AM–5 PM, by appointment. You can book a time online or call (858) 335-0916.

How do I schedule a tour?

Use our online tour calendar to pick an open time, or call (858) 335-0916. It takes about a minute.

What do I need to move in?

Before move-in we need a physician's report with a TB test, a care appraisal so we understand the help needed, and a signed admission agreement. We walk you through each step.

Is Ridgeview licensed?

Yes. Ridgeview Gardens is licensed by the California Department of Social Services as a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly, license #374604403, since July 2021. You can look up our record on the state's Care Facility Search.

Can residents bring furniture?

Yes. Many residents bring a favorite chair, photos, a quilt or small pieces of furniture so their room feels like home. Talk with us about what fits.

What areas do you serve?

We are in Old Poway and welcome families from Poway, Rancho Bernardo, Rancho Peñasquitos, Scripps Ranch, Escondido, Ramona and all of San Diego County.
